You Can’t Meditate Yourself Out of a 60-Hour Work Week

When we feel overwhelmed at work, we reach for meditation apps, gratitude journals, and productivity books. We practice yoga, colour-code our calendars, and promise ourselves more time in nature.

But the real issue isn’t that we need better coping strategies. It’s that we’re trying to fit 25 hours of work into a 24-hour day, and no amount of self-discipline or mindfulness will change those basic maths. When demand exceeds our capacity for long enough, struggling isn’t a character flaw; it’s our nervous system responding appropriately to an impossible situation.

In this quick dip episode, Rachel helps you to stop guessing about what’s actually on your plate, and make conscious decisions about what you’re willing to sacrifice. Otherwise we’ll keep borrowing from our evenings, our sleep, our relationships, and our hobbies to maintain our performance at work.

High-stress professionals don’t slowly decline; they hit a burnout cliff. Performance stays steady until suddenly it doesn’t, and by then there’s nothing left to borrow from. But clarity comes before action. And once you start to see things clearly, you’ll stop arguing with reality, and that’s where real choice begins.
