How to Stop Overthinking at Work (Without Ignoring the Real Problems)

We all make assumptions at work, and often we’re completely unaware we’re doing it. Someone sends a short email and we immediately think they’re angry with us. A colleague changes our plan in a meeting and we assume they’re undermining us. We treat our hunches and feelings as hard facts, even though they’re really just stories we’re telling ourselves.

What if we could separate what we observe from the stories we create about it? Instead of believing our assumptions are true, what if we treated them as hypotheses that need testing?

In this quick dip, Rachel explores how you can identify the story you’re telling yourself about those difficult encounters, so you can pinpoint the assumptions you might be making about the other person’s intentions or motivations.

Because when we leave those assumptions unchecked, we end up fighting battles that don’t exist. We exhaust ourselves managing stories about what people think, rather than dealing with reality. We damage relationships by treating colleagues as if our interpretations are facts.

This is your invitation to stop treating certainty as proof and to start getting curious about what’s actually true.
